Government of Ireland – International Education Scholarships 2024

Overview
The Government of Ireland International Education Scholarship (GOI-IES) program provides financial assistance to international students of exceptional caliber who aspire to pursue doctoral or master’s degrees in Ireland [1]. The initiative is supported by the Irish government in collaboration with Irish institutions of higher education and is administered by the Higher Education Authority. The initiative annually bestows sixty scholarships for one year of full-time study leading to a master’s or doctoral degree. The curriculum is available to students pursuing degrees in any discipline.

What’s included
A stipend of €10,000 is awarded in the form of a Government of Ireland International Education Scholarship, which is valid for one year of full-time study towards a master’s or doctoral degree. The host institutions of higher education must provide a complete fee waiver to the scholarship recipients throughout the scholarship year. It is anticipated that accomplished academics will initiate their academic pursuits in September or October of 2024.

Eligibility
Applicants for a Government of Ireland International Education Scholarship are required to have a place of residency that is not within the European Union, European Economic Area, Switzerland, or the United Kingdom. Candidates must submit an application in accordance with the admission procedures of the eligible higher education institution in order to be considered for admission to a relevant master’s or PhD programme. Applicants are required to submit a copy of a conditional or final offer of admission to the aforementioned institution of higher education at the time of application. The offer letter must verify that the international fee-paying student has been extended an acceptance to a full-time program. Due to Russia’s ongoing aggression in Ukraine, nationals of Russia and Belarus are ineligible to submit an application.

How to apply
Prior to applying, prospective candidates ought to thoroughly review the call documentation in order to determine their eligibility. For your information only, an indicative version of the application form is provided. Submission of applications is required through the online portal. The online portal stipulates that two references must be submitted with each application. Candidates are advised to submit their applications well in advance of the deadline in order to prevent technical difficulties caused by the day’s high server traffic. Once the application deadline has passed, submissions are no longer possible. After submission, modifications to an application are not permissible.

Assessment process
The following are expected of applicants:
The candidate must possess the following: a proven track record of exceptional academic performance; exceptional communication abilities; proof of active involvement in extracurricular pursuits such as humanitarian work, politics, the arts, or sports; and a compelling justification for wanting to study in Ireland that demonstrates how a Government of Ireland International Education Scholarship would contribute to their overarching objectives.
